About the leagueAmherst Baseball and Hadley-Amherst Softball offer youth programs for boys and girls ages 4+. We offer fast-paced and active brands of ball that incorporate lots of instruction and competitive game-play, including against neighboring towns and leagues. We emphasize practice and game-play that maximize balls put in play so that kids can hit, field, throw and run the bases as much as possible.
Since 2012, Amherst Baseball has been operated by a volunteer
Board of Directors. Amherst Baseball and Hadley Amherst Softball are open to children who live or go to school in Amherst, Hadley, Pelham, Shutesbury, and Leverett. If your child does not live or attend school in one of those communities, but you would like to participate in our programs, please
send us an email.
Our main spring season starts in March, with registration opening in the winter and we offer additional programs during the summer and fall.
History of the leagueAmherst Little League was founded in 1952 and has been in continuous existence since its founding. Stan Ziomek, a member of the Western Massachusetts Baseball Hall of Fame and the National Babe Ruth Hall of Fame, was president of the Amherst Baseball Leagues for 60 years until his retirement in 2012. Stan was among the first to insist that girls be allowed to play Little League, and Amherst Baseball continues to be a co-ed baseball league, with Hadley-Amherst Softball offering additional softball opportunities for girls.
